Attendances in the Isthmian Premier Division hit a 10-year record high last season, which poses the question, why is non-league becoming increasingly popular?
Having experience at the Isthmian League level whilst playing and spectating, I have seen the growth in terms of attendance and atmosphere when it comes to non-league.
The plain and brutal answer of why non-league is becoming so popular is because of the sheer tiredness amongst fans of having to put up with the poor standard of the Premier League and being priced out of games.
Football fans have now found a joy in football again by simply supporting their local team.
COVID-19 made life more difficult for fans in terms of travelling miles to get to their Premier League team's ground. Instead, they've opted to go down the road, get more value for money, and watch a proper game of football.
Since COVID, attendances across the Isthmian Premier division in the 24/25 season had doubled!
Average attendances in the division hit 746, 94% higher than attendances a decade ago.
English football must have the fans' best interest at heart. If this was the case with the Premier League, fans wouldn't be having to pay average ticket prices of £74 to watch a so-called 'big six' team that spends half of the game time-wasting and wrestling in the six-yard box to scrape in a set piece.
If you're anything like me and you are sick of the constant politics surrounding the Premier League, do yourself a favor, and get down to your local non-league team's ground for around a tenner, and enjoy a proper game of football with a drink in hand that you can again pay a suitable price for.
